Voyage of the Black Snake: Day 2

Ship's Log Friday 10/9/15

~5 miles

Rain, clearing towards evening. Warm. Breeze SSW.

Paddled from East Creek to Fort Ticonderoga, then up to Shale Beach (around the corner from 5 Mile Point, across the lake from the big paper mill)

Got a late start due to rain: woke up and said "not leaving the tent today!" but rain slowed to a drizzle and we emerged in our rain gear to make dried apple and oatmeal porridge.

Morning tourism stop at Ft Ticonderoga, raided the apple orchard and hobnobbed with the reenactor staff. Lunch was apples, boiled eggs, tortillas, trailmix.

Shale beached proved beautiful, with great skipping stones and a privy stocked with dry toilet paper in an oatmeal tin
.
Fire lighting difficult due to wet wood. Hot dogs and mustard for dinner. Wind picked up toward evening. Plenty mosquitos.

Tomorrow: long paddling day?

Wet morning

Fog on the lens!

I miss you

Sorry I've been absent, but I saw so many of you recently and have been getting cards and emails and phonecalls back and forth that it's hard to keep updated here too!

Some moments:

We got married for the first time at kroka (May the fourth be with you! said Ernst) That little canvas tent is our Kroka-home.

It was just Eliot, me, Misha, plus Aja taking pictures.

More people showed up in support of the June hullabaloo.........

Sunny California.

We went to California.

It was mostly fabulous.

It rained twice, we went to the beach twice, we went swimming in the river and the pond and slept in a yurt and under the moon and ate fish tacos and lemons from my sister's lemon tree and hotdogs and loquats pilfered from neighborhood trees and played with babies :)

Huntington Beach, CA, visiting with E's Uncle.

 Yuba river hike, with newt

Los Angeles Hills- Sunrise hike/scramble through the blooming sage (before it gets bloomin' hot!) and shorter walk with mister Luke- He needs to be walked twice per day OR ELSE.

So much snow.

Went for a ski by the fish hatchery.....
Visitors are not actually permitted to harpoon the fish (trout)

Eliot's mum, Laura came too and took a picture

We built a quinzy that fits us both in the back yard, around a fallen apple tree. Eliot's practicing for work. We should sleep in it, but neither of us really wants to....

quinzy front door...

Real house back door....

And the view from said back door......

More Pie

Eliot's mum came over and we made her a pie. We also decided to ski from Wilton to Milford, following the river. It was a Grand Adventure, and we had a fancy dinner out, afterward, to celebrate our recent credentialing.....my CPM, his EMT.....

This is the pie, inspired by fiction, but really quite lovely. We enjoyed it for lunch with a citrus cabbage salad. Would be lovely with grilled fish and a green salad, or as leftovers for breakfast with eggs....
It's tender root vegetables (mole-appropriate), nestled in rich mushroom gravy and encased in nutty brown pastry...

There was a picture, but having trouble getting it off my phone.

oh, there it is....

New year, new home :)

Eliot and I have moved to a huge one bedroom apartment 10 min walk from my work and 1 hour's drive to his! We have the river in the backyard, tons of storage space and lots of sunny south-facing windows.
